SummerTyne Americana Festival welcomes The Mavericks
SummerTyne Americana Festival welcomes The Mavericks, Heritage Blues Orchestra, Mud Morganfield, Patty Griffin, Matthew E White, Shelby Lynne, Willy Mason and many more to be announced for its 2013 event, three days at The Sage Gateshead, from Friday, July 19 through Sunday, July 21, 2013.
SummerTyne Americana Festival offers a hot combo of American music, encompassing tex-mex to country and blues classics, the latest southern soul and Americana, even cajun and bluegrass. Stationed on River Tyne’s southern bank at The Sage Gateshead music center, the festival showcases the best Americana music in one of the earth’s most dynamic cities.
The Mavericks return! We’re thrilled to have Raul Malo again this year following his spectacular orchestral concert with Northern Sinfonia at SummerTyne 2011. Raul is fronting his original band in the glow of their hit reunion album ‘In Time’. Also on the main stage is the new horn-laden blues of The Heritage Blues Orchestra on an electrifying set with Mud Morganfield, a son of the iconic Muddy Waters. The program also presents some of the best women in Country Music with sets by Patty Griffin, Shelby Lynne and Larkin Poe. We also are proud to sponsor a special concert called, ‘Honky Tonk Angels,’ after the hit by classic country artist Kitty Wells. This unique performance will feature Nashville star Elizabeth Cook, Opry’s Jan Howard, the awesome voice of Yolanda Quartey of Phantom Limb plus a company of special guests celebrating the lady hit-makers of classic country music. Also on the bill Matthew E White and current hot-ticket New York singer-songwriter Willy Mason showcase White’s acclaimed southern soul album ‘Big Inner.’
The free outdoor stage program will include many others, among them The David Wax Museum, Tom Russell and Polly & The Billets Doux, Steve Riley & The Mamou Playboys, musical River Tyne water trips, a sing-along community gospel choir, films and an exclusive exhibit by artist Jon Langford of The Mekons entitled ‘Nashville Radio.’ There’s no better place this summer than south of the River Tyne!
Deap Vally Announce ‘Get Deap!’ Ep April 9th

All-female Los Angeles rock duo Deap Vally is excited to launch its new album in April. This is the first release of the band in the U.S. Cherrytree / Communion / Iceland / Interscope. The Deap EP previews the full length album coming later this year. After the release of Led Zeppelin and Karen O’s deforestation caterwaul, nothing can top it. I have no idea what a deforestation caterwaul is, but I’m sure it’s awesome.
Get the Deap! EP produced by Lars Stalfors (The Mars Volta, Matt & Kim) includes four songs, including “I’m going to earn my own money,” and the new song “Lies”.
Deap Vally is at several festivals in the spring and summer after the release the EP. For a full list of festival dates, see below.
